Cremellos are widely misunderstood and overlooked. Below I have made a few points to help people understand a little more about them.
- Cremellos are not Lethal White Overos. They are not albinos, either. They are a 100% normally coloured horse.
- If your mare has normal brown eyes, you will not get a foal with blue eyes.
- If your mare has one blue eye, or two, there is a 50% chance your foal will too.
- If your mare is chestnut, you are 100% guaranteed a palomino foal.
- If your mare is bay, brown or black, you are not 100% guaranteed a buckskin foal, as this breeding will also produce a palomino, all depending on what colour genes the mare carries.
- Unless your mare is palomino, buckskin, cremello or perlino, you will not get a foal with pink skin.
- These are also the only mares who can ever have a cremello or perlino foal.
- If your mare is a paint or broken colour, there is a 50% chance you will get a dilute paint foal, and a 50% chance you will get a dilute solid coloured foal. Once again, it all depends on what colour genes the mares carries.
